Happy birthday sustamize!

The B-to-B Climate Tech start-up with the largest dynamic CO2e reference database celebrates its first anniversary.

Although the vision of a world with only sustainable products was born much earlier, the journey of sustamize started exactly one year ago. Back then, founders Andreas, Jonas, Michael and Viola, together with the first employee Alison and freelancer Jos Avezaat, took the step to revise and improve the already existing CO2e reference database. One year later, the mission to drive sustainable products has expanded thanks to successful product development, customers, partnerships, dedicated employees and a round of funding.

What did this year look like?

Founding, mission & funding

The founders already knew each other from a previous start-up, and it became increasingly clear that the topic of integrative dynamic CO2e database needed its own home. The goal: to integrate the database where companies are working on cost or quality optimization of products and value chain anyway, so that sustainability becomes another decision factor. As a result, a name was quickly found, the combination of "sustainability" and "optimization". Powered by a funding round and a partner that believes in the mission, the product and the team, sustamize was able to launch in June 2022.

Team & Values

Between July 2022 and today, the team grew from 5 people to 19 sustamizians. Together with the team, the company values of sustainability, innovation, excellence and gratitude were brought to life. And in March of 2023, the entire team gathered for the first time in person.

Product development

The building blocks of the dynamic CO2e database have been built over the last 20 years . Since its inception, sustamize has developed a new database structure that allows for data expansion, transparency and a scalable solution. With the validation by GutCert of the data calculation methodology according to the GHG Protocol standards, sustamize reached a new milestone earlier this year. This was followed by the subsequent launch of the company's web platform, the sustamizer, in April 2023, as well as the introduction of the first database of electronic products and spare parts.
