Transparent CO₂ Data as a Foundation for Automotive Sustainability

We are proud to support a new sustainability analysis published by A2MAC1 for Green NCAP, built on sustamize’s validated CO₂e reference data. The study represents an important milestone toward more transparent, comparable, and actionable carbon footprint assessments in the automotive sector. As regulatory pressure increases and sustainability metrics move further into the spotlight, the need for robust and trustworthy carbon data has become critical. OEMs, suppliers, regulators, and consumers alike rely on consistent methodologies to understand the true environmental impact of vehicles, well beyond tailpipe emissions.

Full-Vehicle Carbon Footprint Analysis Across Regions

In this project, A2MAC1 analyzed the full-vehicle carbon footprint of leading models across multiple regions. By combining bottom-up teardown data with sustamize’s validated CO₂e reference values, the approach achieves a directional accuracy of approximately ± 10 % compared to detailed assessments. This balance between depth and scalability makes the results particularly suitable for benchmarking and regulatory applications.

The analysis covers more than 2,000 parts and assemblies per vehicle, including body-in-white and high-voltage batteries. Results highlight substantial regional differences in vehicle production emissions, underlining the importance of location-specific data for meaningful sustainability assessments. Battery chemistry also plays a decisive role, with notable CO₂e variations between NMC/NCA and LFP/LMO technologies. In addition, the study confirms that the use of recycled metals can reduce a vehicle’s overall carbon footprint by around 10 %, reinforcing the relevance of circular economy strategies.
